This, of course, has been a very strange an unexpected year and maybe lot of your wedding plans have changed. You may have been looking to have a summer wedding but due to the pandemic, this has now been booked in for the winter months and although this was not what you had in mind when you booked, it can still be just as beautiful and spectacular, if not even more magical and we are here to tell you why and give you a few ideas!

When you book in for the summer months to have your wedding one main aspect you want is of course - sunshine! But even though we are island, we are certainly not tropical and even in summer, good weather is not always guaranteed whereas if you were to have a wedding in winter, one thing you don’t have to worry about is having good weather as you know what the weather is going to like anyway so you can make it all cosy and cute if the sun does shine, then it’s just an added bonus to your day! The colder months also mean you can have a completely clear marquee and you don’t have to worry about the blazing sun coming through and creating a green house.

Of course, when you’re having a winter wedding most people think it needs to be Christmas themed which is not the case at all! The easiest way to keep with the winter theme but look less like Santa’s elves decorated your wedding for you is to tone down the typical red and green colours that are everywhere that time of year and try to maybe stick to one of these perhaps and mix these with other richer colours like golds, burgundy’s and royal blues or try an emerald green.

A navy, gold and baby pink colour scheme would look fresh and new, keeping within that winter theme but adding a princess pop to it. Try to stay away from anything remotely Santa, reindeers, elf related as of course this will give the impression of a Christmas theme, unless that is what you want to achieve.

Just a few festive touches are all you need we have added some special ideas below which can tie in really nicely to make your day sparkle:

Hot cocoa station

S’mores station

Whiskey bar

Hot Chocolate bar

Cookie bar

Toffee apples for dessert

Sparklers for the evening (which creates an amazing photo!)

Biodegrable white confetti to create the look of snow falling

Add a little glitter and sparkle! Lighting can make all the difference and can really transform the space and you can certainly get more out of it in the winter due to the long nights.

Fairy lights are a gorgeous way of adding a fairy tale feel and pairing that soft look with the subtle glow of scattered candles on the tables and in lanterns you can easily create a romantic, dreamy setting.

Your cake doesn’t have to be the traditional fruit cake, why not try a chocolate cake (who doesn’t love chocolate?) or red velvet cake! A naked cake with added frosty details such as pine cones, figs and berries will help to create that winter feel. If you wanted something more dramatic, why not add a touch of gold to achieve a more glamourous look and if you’re going for a more casual laid-back look, you could ditch the traditional wedding cake altogether and have a cookie or smores bar instead along with an amazing cheeseboard spread for afterwards.

If you wanted to maintain a more rustic look why not go for more of a woodland look for a winter wedding, so easy to do and can be done effectively on a budget. Rustic tables, wooden cross back chairs or rustic benches will set the scene and then you can added with a wooden dancefloor, rustic bar, wine barrels and wooden log slice on the tables with huge chunks of pine, hire in an array of pine trees in varying sizes and fairy lights to give the whole look a softer feel.

When thinking about what to wear, the choices are endless!! But you most certainly won’t have the issue of overheating so if you picture yourself in a heavy skirted fairy tale gown or want to add beautiful lace sleeves there won’t be worry in sight! You could even add a little faux fur cover up for the ultimate winter wedding chic! And for the grooms, you won’t need a change of shirt mid-way through the day and your jacket and waistcoat can stay on all day/ evening if you want!

Ultimately, in our eyes, a winter wedding is always a good idea and should not be a last option!
