Luddite Press

Once you’ve planned the dates and made some very important decisions, the stationery journey is where you can really begin to set the tone for the big day.  The theme begins here, whether it’s ‘save the date’ cards or straight in for the invite it’s your opportunity to convey your story to your guests.

Your day should reflect you two, the colours, the vibe the style.  You can bring in elements of shared travel experiences, your favourite pastimes or traditional family references to make it your own.

Whether you have your own creative flair or need more of a helping hand the boys at Luddite Press are on hand to help and advise.  Pay them a visit in their heritage workshop with it’s Victorian designed presses for some great photo opportunities to add to your album.

How did you get your business started?

We met through a keen interest in printmaking and within a relatively short space of time managed to fortuitously acquire two traditional printing presses on island. Once we had two half tonne beauties we thought we better do something with them and went on to secure a space at Greve De Lecq Barracks, where we're housed in the 'Quarter Master's Store'.

What your business is?

Our 'business' is a non-profit, open access print room promoting and educating in the traditional craft of printmaking. We use traditional letterpress to produce all of our stationery.

Any training?

We're both exhibiting artists in our own rights with more than 25 years experience between us. Originally educated to degree level with additional training and experience at Edinburgh Printmakers and the Sir John Cass School of Art.

What’s the idea/story behind your business name?

The Luddite's were a group of early 19th century revolutionary workers. They retaliated against the mechanization of the workforce as they felt it undermined their skilled craftspeople. Our invites, menus, seating plans and order of service are all individually hand printed and are therefore unique.

Why are you different to other businesses in your field?

We're the only business in the Channel Islands offering hand printed letterpress wedding stationery, which is also where we differ from other wedding stationers. Using our state of the art 19th century machines, we are able to print from existing designs if you already have something in mind or we can start from scratch and tailor every printed design element to your taste and theme.

Your process?

We always encourage anyone who might be interested to come down to the barracks and visit the workshop. We can talk through your ideas over a glass of bubbles or we can get you printing which can become part of your whole wedding experience. When it comes to the actual production of your stationery we'll be doing that, hands on, with the old Adana.

Services that you offer?

We produce bespoke, hand printed letterpress wedding stationery. Using fine cotton and card stock including handmade Jersey paper, and the best inks,

our stationery becomes something tactile, beautiful and rooted in craft. Get in touch to ask about invites, save the date cards, thank you Notelets, hand stitched order of service booklets, menus, maps, seating plans, wax seals and more.

How to get in touch?
